Dolpo Trekking is a unique adventurous activity that offers a peek
into both the wilderness of western Nepal and the rich culture of Bon
Pos. Dolpa is an expansive mountainous region beyond the Himalayan
range, whose culture and language is matches more to the Tibetan
community than the communities in Nepal. Politically, it is the
largest district of Nepal. People in the Dolpo region follow Bon Po
religion, a religion followed by Tibetans before following Buddhism.
Dolpo region falls in Shey Phoksundo National Park. Shey Phoksundo
Lake in the national park is dubbed a fresh water lake in the highest
altitude of the world. A beautiful water-fall more than 1000 m high
emerges from the end of the Shey Phoksundo water fall.
Dolpo region can be accessed from Jomsom or Beni in the east, Jumla in
the west and Dunai in the South. Trekkers can either enter the region
from a threshold and return the same path after trekking in the Dolpo
region or exit through a different point.
Dolpo trek is a camping trek where we need to carry tents, sleeping
bags and provisions for cooking. Trekkers are required to be in sound
health condition for this trek. An upper Dolpo trek requires a special
permit from Nepal government as it is adjacent to the Tibet Autonomous
Region of China.
