Kala Pathar Elevation

There has been little bit confusion regarding Kala Pathar Elevation. Previously, the height was thought to be somewhere in between 5545m and 5550m. But, according to the research conducted by Dr. Luis A, Ruedas who is the assistant professor in reputed Portland State University in 6th December 2006, the elevation of Kala Pathar was found to be 5643m which equals to 18514ft. This fact was deducted after taking an average from 48 different readings. Also, to confirm this fact, another similar research was conducted again in 2008 and at this time, the height of Kalapathar was found to be 5644.5m. This Kala Pathar is distinct from other surrounding peaks as it is marked with prayer flags.
Kala Pathar is famous for its epic views of Mount Everest and Khumbu Glacier. Kalapathar trekking is located near to Everest Base Camp and it is popular among tourists for the breathtaking sunrise and sunset views over Everest. Ironically, you cannot get view of Everest from Everest Base Camp. For that, you need to be at Kala pattar itself.

Climbing route for Kalapattar begins from Gorakshep from where you will pass through rhythmic ascend and descend through ridges for about 2hrs to reach Kalapattar.
Since it lies in higher altitude, weather remains pretty cold which is why it would be a fine idea to go to Kalapattar only during afternoon especially if you are visiting this destination during autumn and winter.
One tricky thing about Kalapatar elevation is that you cannot see Kala Pattar at its full height from Gorakshep.  The increasing altitude might propose a challenge to you or your team even though the route is not much difficult to traverse. The trek towards Kalapattar rewards you with fascinating views of Lobuche, Nuptse, Pumori and Everest.
